Lillian Grant is a California artist who grew up in Davis with two, artist parents, nurtured and enveloped in a studio environment.

Eschewing the traditional educational track; she spent her teen years drawing, painting and cooking her way through the innovative Davis School For Independent Study.  She then launched herself into a self-directed study of art, fashion, music and food in Los Angeles.  While there, on her own, she honed a fondness for Googie architecture, made massive, scrolled, ink paintings and started making art from recycling retro, thrift shop finds.

For the last few years she has been dividing her time between studios in Davis, CA (where she works on ceramics, bookmaking and painting on found objects) and Milan, Italy where she works with fabric design, stitchery and continues to make treasure from refuse with her ongoing exploration of “Taroni Trash.”  While visiting the world famous Taroni silk factory near Lake Como, she noticed bags of silk odds and ends that were headed to the dump. Seeing the potential in the discarded yardage and bits, she began to sort through the tangled treasure trove and began making art. She now is working with the company to utilize the excess silk by turning it into beautiful, lustrous compositions and plush products.
